Documentation node consists of the necessary hardware and software, intended for the purpose of quick and easy retrieval of any I&C related documents like P&IDs, Instrument Index, Logic Diagrams etc.

It is primarily a Database system, customized as per the user requirements, which not only displays and prints out all unit documents, but also allows editing of the documents to the authorized personnel.

The Hardware

The node comprises a workstation or a PC along with the accessories like streamer tape, CD writer and a laser printer. Also:

• Stores complete unit documentation for all units.
• Store all instrument specification sheets including all field devices and P&ID's for all the units. The specifications essentially consist of Loop Name, Tag Number, Location, Service and all major attributes to uniquely identify the instruments in the plant.
• Generates new drawings and documents and load these in the system if required.
• Has the provision of transferring/ accessing information to/ from Ms Access/ Excel formats from/ to other PC's on network.
• Prints various documents as required.

The Software

The node essentially consists of the following:

1. Documents, preferably HTML Web documents, for viewing by all plant personnel. These documents are:
• P&IDs
• Instrument Index
• Field Instrument Data Sheets
• Instrument Hook ups / Installation drawings
• Functional Schematics
• Logic Diagrams
• JB Schedule
• Cable List
• Interconnecting Wiring Diagram
• Cabinet Layouts
• Loop Wiring drawings
• Various Engineering Manuals
2. Search Facility - in order to search all the relevant documents (like Instrument Index, Specification Diagrams, JB Schedules etc.) for a particular Tag Number / Loop Number.
3. Editable database for the project (Field engineering and DCS engineering database) - accessible by authorized personnel with user name and password. The editable database allows to generate / print / modify the documents with the following features:
• Change Once - Update All - changes made at one location updates all relevant documents and drawings(like Instrument Index, Specification Diagrams, Hook ups, JB schedule, Loop Drawings).
• Maintains copy of old documents for comparing with the latest revision i.e. it maintains a revision history.
• Is capable of exporting reports in popular formats like Excel / Word.
• DCS documents like Loop Diagrams, Alarm List etc. are linked with field instrument database (instrument range, service etc.).
• Generates new documents and drawings. These are also made available in HTML Web formats for the viewing purpose.
• Has the provision of transferring / accessing information to / from MS Access / Excel and other database systems from / to other workstations on the network.
• Manages Loop wiring diagram for every input and output including Field Interconnection upto instrument, inclusive of Junction Box. Loop drawings are linked to database and changes in database updates Loop drawings dynamically and vice versa.
• Creates Loop schematic & instrument Hook-up drawings showing sample tubing, fittings, joints etc. Also it generates BOM from instrument hook ups.
• Alarm and Trip settings (soft & hard along with field settings) for DCS and PLC tag numbers in tabular form, in total or in part, as per requirements based on type of instruments / parameters are also handled.
4. Navigation in layouts (from room to cabinet, cabinet to different modules, modules to resource).
5. Provision for viewing / printing Logic diagrams, PLC configuration.
6. Capable of generating any report in the user definable format.
7. Possible to add / delete / modify any attribute, data specification, parameter etc. from the system with proper password protection is provided.
8. Generates Cable Schedule.
9. Any information is accessible from the system through the program only.
